Hi Everybody:
In a climate of university cutbacks, and university "debt-reduction", I am
trying to put together justification for retaining our able thin section
technician and his laboratory.
I would like to be able to show that there is a demand out there for cheap
thin sections.
I am just looking for expressions of interest, and indications of numbers
of thin sections that might be wanted. (I am not exactly soliciting orders
at present, although we are willing to consider them).
At present, our technician tells me is charging the following for
commercial work:-
(NZ dollars) approx. USA dollars (@45 to 50
cents/NZ$)
Normal thin section $30 $15
Large thin section $40 $20
Impregnated thin section $40 $20
Polished section $50 $25
Impregnated polished $65 $32.50
Fluid inclusion $50 $25
Polished mounts $25 $12.5
He prefers making covered slides to making polished slides, so I think we
would try to focus the commercial work on covered slides as much as
possible for now.
(He doesn't particularly enjoy making polished slides, so he is always
asking for more better equipment for making those - a dangerous tactic in
the current economic climate).
Thanks!
