Aris and all, I erred in my initial post: the example of the parallel witch
movie to _Blair Witch Project_, especially in the alternation of
black-and-white and color footage, is _The Wizard of Oz-, not _Gone with the
Wind_ (?).
In answer to your question Aris:
By the authentic in dreams, I mean that Freud does not give us a means to
distinguish between authentic and inauthentic dreams: all dreams are
authentic. All interpretations, however, are not. For Freud interpretations
hinge on psychic states.
In this regard, cinema might be regarded as consciousness--"psychic."
The problem in Freudian interpretation then becomes how a film constructs
its psychic states. For Freud psychic states are what determine the validity
of interpretation. Might the psychic divisions introduced by B+W and C be
used in this way?
Your example of your friend liking _BWP_ better on videotape than at the
cinema, Aris,
shows how much we take video to be "authentic," "caught-on-tape" footage,
correct?
