The Department of Student Support Services is a central resource for
the University, providing a range of general, practical and specialist
support services for students. As an aspect of the Department's activities
to support the University's Widening Participation Strategy, we are seeking
to appoint a third part-time dyslexia specialist to join our Disability
Support team.
You will provide individual specialist support for students who have
been formally assessed as having dyslexia, establishing and monitoring
individual learning support programmes and providing specialist support with
technical writing and study skills.
You will have a thorough understanding of the nature of dyslexia and
its implications for students in higher education, with excellent teaching
and communication skills and experience of providing specialist support for
adults with dyslexia.
A degree or equivalent qualification is essential, as is a
postgraduate diploma or certificate in Teaching Pupils with Specific
Learning Difficulties (RSA). A relevant qualification in teaching or
supporting adults with dyslexia would be an advantage.
The post involves working 18.5 hours per week for three periods to
cover academic terms.
The postholder will be expected to offer regular sessions each week
and will be required to work at two University sites (City and Clifton).
Applicants are requested to indicate the flexibility that can be offered
with regard to their availability.
In the first instance, a fixed-term contract will be available to 31
July 2002.
Closing date: Friday 15 December
