Workshop on
The Indian Software Industry in a Global Context
A two-day workshop on the above topic is being organised at the Indian
Institute of Management, Ahmedabad in August 2001. The tentative dates are
August 20-21, 2001.
Objectives
The objective of this workshop is to discuss various aspects of the
evolution of the Indian software industry in the context of an emerging
global software industry. Experiences of the growth of software industry in
other parts of the world will provide a backdrop for discussing the Indian
case. Some specific questions that we would like to focus on include:
(i) How and why is the dynamic of industrial growth and in India different
from that in other countries, e.g. Israel or Ireland or the UK?
(ii) Are there differences across countries in the strategies adopted by
software firms for their growth? Why do we find such differences?
(iii) What are the policy implications of the differences and the
similarities of the international experience of software development?
Though individual papers may present results of detailed research work on
software growth in different countries, we hope to invite discussants from
among researchers, industry specialists and policy makers, to move the
discussion around these issues.
Call for papers
We would like to invite abstracts for papers for the workshop from whosoever
is interested. Please send your abstract of not more than 1000 words by
