2000-2001 Research Programmes
The Trustees have decided once again to consider submissions for very large
grants for programmes of research in the following areas: The social and
economic impact of information and communication technology;
> Research Programmes
> The Leverhulme Trustees are prepared to consider awarding a substantial
> programme grant or grants in one or more of the fields indicated above and
> described in more detail below. A grant would support a major research
> programme typically designed to last for 5 years at a total cost of no
> more than £1.25 million. Such a programme would consist of a number of
> inter-linked projects, undertaken by a team of established researchers.
> The topic: The social and economic impact of information and communication
> technology
> The Topic
> 1. The social and economic impact of information and communication
> technology: a programme of research into any range of the direct and
> indirect, medium- or long-run consequences and/or implications of the
> introduction of information and communication technology. For example,
> applications could focus on economic, social, cultural or political
> effects - or on any combination of them. The basic objective would be to
> generate a systematic understanding of the present and even more the
> prospective consequences, in one or more fields of human activity, of
> recent innovations in the transfer and manipulation of data and
> information.
