THEME
------------
The World-Wide-Web is effectively the largest heterogeneous data warehouse in the world.
The huge amount of information in numerous forms and of various nature presents a headache
to everyone. Traditional database techniques are not equipped to deal with this kind of
situation and must be extended. New methodologies may have to be invented as well.
How to manage, retrieve, or even discover the information that will be of interest to you
is a big challenge.
The purpose of this workshop is to clarify the key tasks involved in the management of
information on the Web, and will try to answer questions such as: what are the methodologies
for the tasks? And what practical applications may benefit from the methodologies?
The relevant topics may include the following (but not limited to):
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
* Database techniques for the web;
* Data warehousing on the web;
* Data mining and knowledge discovery on the web;
* Text mining on the web;
* Information retrieval and extraction;
* Document categorisation;
* High performance computing technology for very large databases;
* Distributed database management techniques;
* Query and transaction management;
* Database security on the web;
* Digital library techniques.
