For those of you who live in London and haven't heard about Jamaica Blue
Coffee Shop please note the interesting programme of events this week.

JAMAICA BLUE - EVENTS UPDATE

Greetings. We shall shortly be circulating a full programme of June events.
In the meantime, there are a couple of upcoming events which we hope you
will want to know about. If you can spare time for nothing else, please
consider coming to Jamaica Blue at 9.30 pm tonight (Tuesday) for a very
special performance. And please watch this space because there is a lot
happening in June.

TUESDAY 30 MAY (open 8.00 am)
6.30 pm
LISA HENDRICKS - FIRST VIEWING
The latest exhibition at Jamaica Blue is a bright and colourful collection
of paintings by Lisa Hendricks, a graphic artist whose life spans periods in
Uganda, Nigeria, England and now Jamaica, where she lives in Portland. Lisa
will be at Jamaica Blue this evening to discuss her work and the exhibition
will run until 10 June.

8.00 pm - 9.15 pm
THE ALEX DOUGLAS MUSICIANS' COLLECTIVE
Complementing Lisa's paintings, a bright and colourful collection of first
rate musicians come together to celebrate the art of Jazz. Joining Alex
(tonight on bass) will be Froy Aagre on saxophone, Jack Burnaby on piano and
Toby Goodman on drums.

And from 9.30 pm
JAMAICA BLUE OPEN MIC
The first 20 minute segment of tonight's show will be devoted to Hands in
Praise, the extraordinary deaf Gospel choir from Jamaica, whose members
perform to music which they cannot hear, but feel. They are in London to
perform alongside several other leading international choirs, such as The
London Adventist Chorale and Norway's Stavanger Gospel Choir, at the London
Festival of Gospel, part of the nationwide Millennium Festival, funded by
The Millennium Commission and The London Arts Board. Their appearance has
been made possible by The Voice and Western Union, among others, both of
which are high profile supporters of cultural activities featuring Caribbean
artists and performers. With its particular focus on Jamaica, Western Union
is helping to put a positive spotlight on the Island's creativity and
tonight Jamaica Blue is delighted to provide the stage. The Open Mic will
have three segments. Your performance is invited, or you can just sit back
and enjoy the show.

(Also on Tuesday, from 7.00 pm to 9.00 pm, Sandra Richards, the
international agent for African American Women on Tour [AAWOT] will have a
display table in the adjacent room at Jamaica Blue and be available to
answer questions about AAWOT and offer membership details.)

WEDNESDAY 31 MAY (open 8.00 am)
7.00 pm - 9.00 pm
