To whom it may concern,
I'm a postgraduate design student. Recently I'm diving in a
research project that the selected topic is "virtual classroom of
DESIGN". During my research process, However, I'm not pretty
sure how workable to study DESIGN via Internet.
Virtual classroom seemed more flexible, accessible, and
rewarding than the physical classroom environment. Undoubtedly,
the student can be involved at every moment & everywhere, in
myriad ways, when it's most convenient. And the teachers are
much more involved as well. Virtual classroom seems a new way
learning that many people predict will be an important piece of the
educational future.
Almost 2 million students worldwide are already enrolled in
distance learning education via Internet from providers in US &
Canada. Programs vary in US, by the next year, 80% of US
universities & colleges will be offering online classes.
However, by some articles discussed, learning via the Internet is
often too time-consuming & costly for educators to provide quality
instruction, which concludes a panel of professors at the
University of Illinois. The report cautions against offering
undergraduates degrees entirely online & suggests instead that
students take only a few classes on the Internet. More important,
the report concluded, such programs could never replace the
personal touch that comes only through face-to-face interaction.
It also concluded that, in specific cases, universities could
effectively use the Internet for distance education. Math instructors,
for instance, can use the Internet to teach geometry & trigonometry
with software that electronically manipulates objects.
I considered that is virtual classroom suitable for DESIGN
education? I couldn't find any info that is mentioned the design
education via Internet. Certainly, study via Internet is being popular,
for instance, MBA program by web-base learning. But how about
DESIGN education?
I guessed emerging technological change might be critical. The
costs of developing a virtual classroom could be quite high &
difficult to control. The following questions are what I'm thinking of:
-The differences between virtual classroom & traditional
classroom.
-Was real-time communication technology well developed?
-Technologically, what would use to set up a virtual classroom?
-What is the advantage or disadvantage of DESIGN study via
Internet?
-What kind of related issues could be? Technological, social, or
educational?
-What kind of things should I be also considered?
-Or the other relevant issues I've never think before.
My chosen topic is seemed too board for research, but I didn't
know how to narrow it down, does anyone can help me?
