The First Northumbria Creativity Conference
Wednesday 30th August Friday 1st September, 2000
University of Northumbria at Newcastle, UK (Longhirst Campus)
Enhancing students creativity Creating the creative university
Following on from the success of the four previous international
Northumbria higher education conferences on assessment, it is our
intention to hold the First Northumbria Creativity conference. The aim of
this conference will be to explore the ways in which educational and
organisational development may enable students to enhance their
creativity, in or across all disciplines.
The format of the Northumbria Creativity Conference will be highly
participative. Much of our work will be undertaken in thematic task
groups, which will be commissioned to adopt imaginative approaches to the
design of:
Teaching, learning and assessment methods
Higher education curricula
Learning environments
Staff development strategies
Academic departments
Universities and colleges, and government policies for higher education,
specifically to enhance the creative ability of students (and therefore,
their teachers and managers).
The work of the task groups will be stimulated by keynote talks, workshops
and other resources. Our guest speakers and facilitators will include:
Amy Swisher, Creativity Consultant, RiverRun Communications, USA;
Graham Rawlinson, Next Step Associates. Innovation Consultant and TRIZ
Specialist;
John Abbott, 21st Century Learning Initiative, a transitional programme
to synthesise the best of research and development into the nature of
human learning, and to examine its implications for education, work and
the development of communities worldwide;
Caroline Baillie, Lecturer in Materials and in Education Development; and
Simon Dewulf, Researcher, Creativity Project Leaders, Imperial College of
Science, Technology and Medicine, London.
