Peter,
What way, then, out of such mediations? Isn't the Function to which you
allude below the very atmosphere "innovative" Authors inhabit and breathe?
The parole of poetic formations is differently inflected across the
spectrum, yes, but the Langue out of which they arise is one:
Peter Riley and Ted Hughes, Charles Bernstein and Robert Pinsky...
The difference is one of degree, not of kind.
"Innovative Poets" are a kind of sign.
Authorship, in turn, is a kind of gravity, and the "avant-garde" today
behaves as if space travel hasn't been invented.
Thus (in the U.S. at least), one has the crisis of the erstwhile
revolutionary party, which now satisfies itself with reforms on the flat
surface of the page.
Thus, when the encompassing relations of production and exchange are the
seeming natural order of things, it's just three steps from iron to
feathers!
Three steps to become a partner in the Popular Front of the Academy.
Beyond the horizon of Authorship, why it looks for all the world like the
world simply falls away.
Safer on terra firma, where there is a Museum, and canvasses authenticated
with the Name are lovingly framed...
Which is not to say that anonymity or pseudonymity are ways to step out of
the picture, because they aren't.
