Sorry to be askew of discussion threads & muttering away in the corner
-- 'twas ever thus mit guitar & 12 bars -- but I tried a couple of EB
Browning sonnets to E Dickinson's prescription (hunching she would have
meant to read the lines in reverse order rather than the individual
words) & would present one here.
Sonnet 30
As now these tears come...falling hot and real
For my soul's eyes? Will that light come again,
Too vehement light dilated my ideal,
The glory as I dreamed, and fainted when
Beloved, dost thou love? Or did I see all
As he, in his swooning ears, the choir's Amen.
Perplexed, uncertain, since thou art out of sight
On the altar stair. I hear thy voice and vow
May so fall flat, with pale insensate brow
Amid the chanted joy and thankful rite.
Or I, who makes me sad? The acolyte
Refer the cause? -- Beloved, it is thou
And yet today I saw thee smiling. How
I see thine image through my tears tonight.
Thought some effects of interest. While here let me recommend the Feb
issue of How2 - scanning the TOC it looks very worthwhile. If you've
not been there it's at:
http://www.departments.bucknell.edu/stadler_center/how2/index.html
The earlier print version is now available through there also.
Adios, Pete.
