Yes, more sad news. Back in the late 60's Henri was the only one of the
Liverpool 3 that interested me and his band - with Andy Roberts - were great
fun. As a poet though he stood still, mostly, which was tragic. He had so
much promise as a writer but never followed through. I remember him though
with great fondness for his carnivalesque early material that dealt so
freshly with joy freedom and desire - the perfect expression of that great
60's pop levelling - his 'If you weren't you who would you want to be' is
still charming. That moment may be long past but reading the poem brings that
energetic openness of possibility back.
