Frances--thanks for the multiple reports: yes, I know how difficult it can
be to report on things. Last time Bill Griffiths was through Toronto I'd
intended to write a report but through a variety of circumstances (a TV
monitor in the gallery, a resonantly echoey room) I found myself struggling
to understand what he was saying so eventually scrapped the notes. I should
instead perhaps have kept notes on the reception for him at Victor Coleman's
the next afternoon, which also had a brief & more clearly audible reading
(of a translation of the opening of _Beowulf_), aside from some pleasant
shmoozing with various people I hadn't seen for a while.
Haven't really read Alan Davies much, beyond the work in _In the American
Tree_--can't say it left a strong impression (except, perhaps, that the
one-sentence-per-line thing in "101" had already been done better by Barrett
Watten in "Complete Thought"). & I don't know the recent work at all.
I hope someone _will_ say a bit about the Oliver memorial tribute. Wish I'd
been able to make it.
all best --N
