David: glad the review/sample quotes from Langley seemed convincing. It's
an important book, & Carcanet's to be commended for taking it on. (Same
goes for their publication of Michael Haslam's _A Whole Bauble_, a book that
deserved a little more hullaballoo; it's not as pared-down as Langley's
_Collected Poems_, the later sections being to my eye rather over-the-top,
but at its core is _Continual Song_, one of the best books to appear in the
1980s. Fans of Michael Corless-Smith should take a look at it.)
I should clarify that I don't myself find it easy or necessarily desirable
to cordon off my sense of an author's personality or behaviour from their
work; but it's a complex matter, which has nothing to do with casual
image-blackening ("he reminds me of Hitler"). Attendees at CCCP this year
will recall Kevin Nolan's blast at similar one-line dismissals of Ed Dorn.
