As a very new recruit, both in post and to ARLIS, I wonder if anyone
can offer words of advice with regard to a particular problem. The
Slide Library was moved at very short notice to a temporary home within
the main Library complex. The room was initially extremely damp, but
the department which had requested the move undertook to make the area
'suitable' to house the Collection. The walls were stripped, lined
with a skin and replastered (but only to the level of the suspended
ceiling) Dehumidifiers were hired for 1 month to dry the area out.
These have been gone since the end of November and there is growing
evidence of condensation on some of the slides with subsequent damage
if used in projectors before they are caught.
A site meeting has been called, and I really need as much information
concerning the housing of slide collections before the event. I have
the ICOM guidelines which I do not think are specific enough for my
purpose - has anyone any suggestions. All comments would be very
welcome.
Apologies for the naivite of my first foray into the link - I am a
staff of one so need all the assistance I can get!!
