An advertisement for an Accessioning and Cataloguing archivist (POST 1

arisen, and interviews for the two posts are intended to be held at the same

revised closing date for applications is 2 October 2000.

Please enquire to the address given in the adverts rather than to the

 POST 1

 Somerset Archive and Record Service
Archivist: Accessioning and Cataloguing (Scale 5 or 6)
Appointment within the ranges 15,210-16,680 or 17,220-18,372, based on
qualifications and experience.

We are looking for a qualified archivist to take a leading role in
accessioning and cataloguing documents received by the Somerset Record
Office. Our backlog of unlisted material is being tackled by a special team
as part of the lottery-funded 'Access to Somerset Archives' project. It is
essential that newly-arriving materials are processed promptly and
comprehensively and this will be the primary task for this post. A current
driving licence is highly desirable.

There will be ample opportunities to join in other programmes including the
general public service and outreach.

You should be able to demonstrate enthusiasm for, and success in,
descriptive work. Those with appropriate post-qualification experience will
be offered a contract on Scale 6.

If you have any questions on the project and the likely job content, please
contact Tom Mayberry or Sue Berry on 01823 278805.

Application forms and further details are available from Debbie Collins,
Room A127, Support Services, County Hall, Taunton, TA1 4DY. Tel. 01823
355042.

Closing date for applications: 2 October 2000

 POST 2

 Somerset Archive and Record Service
Archivist: Outreach (Scale 5 or 6)
Appointment within the ranges 15,210-16,680 or 17,220-18,372, based on
qualifications and experience.

We are looking for a qualified archivist to fill a recent vacancy in the
staff of the Somerset Archive and Record Service, based at the Somerset
Record Office, Taunton.

The person appointed will be chiefly concerned with outreach, including the
delivery of a service within North Somerset Unitary Authority. This
service, already well-established and successful, involves weekly visits to
libraries in North Somerset to offer advice to the public and make documents
available.

There will be ample opportunity for the postholder to participate in the
broad range of other activities to be found in a busy county record office.
A current driving licence is essential.

A recently-qualified archivist could be expected to be appointed on Scale 5,
an archivist with significant relevant experience on Scale 6.

If you have any questions about the post please contact Tom Mayberry or Sue
Berry on (01823) 278805.

Application forms and further details are available from Debbie Collins,
