Newsplan Project Director
The Trustees of the NEWSPLAN
Company seek a Project Director to
direct a major preservation microfilming
project funded by the Heritage Lottery
Fund, with partnership funding from
participating libraries and the
newspaper industry. NEWSPLAN is a
collaborative programme covering
all Regions of the United Kingdom
to preserve local newspapers by
microfilming them to international
archival standards.
The successful candidate will co-ordinate
and direct the NEWSPLAN Project, and
ensure that its objectives are achieved
to agreed standards and targets within
set costs and budgets. The Director will
manage and ensure the active
participation of the key stakeholders;
maintain links with the UK newspaper
industry and other companies involved with
the Project; and liaise closely with the
Heritage Lottery Fund.
Candidates must have proven
management skills, and experience
of managing a microfilming or similar
operation would be advantageous.
Good communication skills are essential,
as is an understanding and sympathy
for library collections and, in particular,
for newspaper collections. The successful
candidate must be an effective and
persuasive negotiator and be able
to demonstrate business and marketing
skills. A professional commitment
to quality-driven customer service
is essential.
The post as Project Director will be
a fixed-term contract post for three
years, which is the duration of the
project. Salary on appointment will be
£42,111 a year. The post will be located
in offices in North London.
