British Library Co-operation and Partnership Programme
A new chapter
The British Library is the world's leading resource for scholarship,
research and innovation and is rarely out of the news. Join us as we move
our knowledge, collections, expertise and cultural heritage into the digital
age.
Project Officer, Co-operation and Partnership Programme
London, Salary c£20,000. Fixed term post for two years to 31 December
2002.
The British Library's Co-operation and Partnership Programme is seeking a
project officer to develop two priority initiatives:to administer a new
Wellcome Trust Fund for Documentary Collections in the History of Medicine
and to develop the Full Disclosure initiative into a national strategy for
retrospective catalogue conversion and retrospective cataloguing.
The Library is working with the Wellcome Trust to administer a new Fund for
Documentary Collections in the History of Medicine. Funding for two years
from 1 January 2001, has been made available by the Trust for conservation
and cataloguing projects. The Library's Co-operation and Partnership
Programme will administer the scheme. The main duties of the postholder
will include answering enquiries, preparing publicity, processing
applications, and acting as secretariat to the Awards panel.
The other project is to develop the Full Disclosure initiative which the
British Library has supported since April 1999. Since then the project has
concentrated largely on promotion of the strategy. Work to date has
included the recently completed framework document which aims to guide both
applicants and funders on strategic priorities for retrospective catalogue
conversion and retrospective cataloguing. The next phase of work to be
developed will include: further publicity, identification of potential
funders, encouraging new projects and brokering partnerships between
applicants.
Candidates will be graduates, preferably with a professional library or
archives qualification. An interest in the history of medicine and/or
experience of cataloguing or conservation would also be desirable.
The postholder will be expected have a good command of written and spoken
English and excellent communication skills. The ability to be flexible,
work to tight deadlines and with minimum supervision will also be essential.
A necessary requirement is competence with word processing. Experience of
using spreadsheet and database packages such as Excel and Access is
desirable.
