OUR FRIENDS IN THE NORTH: a seminar on Yorkshire Quaker
records
Date: 1pm-4.50pm, Saturday 30 September 2000
Venue: Edward Boyle Library, University of Leeds
Cost: 4 pounds (including refreshments)
**************************************************************
Organised by the Yorkshire Quaker Heritage Project, this is
the first in a series of seminars which will take place
during the course of the project. It is aimed at
researchers in the field of Quaker and Nonconformist
history, family historians with Quaker ancestors, local
Friends, and archivists and special collections librarians.
The seminar will provide an overview of the range of
archival and printed sources available for research into
Quakerism in Yorkshire, partly through a number of case
studies. The aim is to raise awareness and encourage new
research.
Quakerism has particularly strong historical roots in
Yorkshire, dating back to the mid 17th century. The
potential for research is huge, given the breadth of Quaker
influence and activity in the region, ranging from family
history and biography, to the history of Meetings, schools
and businesses.
