Research Officer (1 year appointment)
DORSET RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT SUPPORT UNIT,
POOLE HOSPITAL, DORSET
The Dorset Research and Development Support Unit (Dorset RDSU) is part of a network of RDSUs in the South West of England. It is funded by the National Health Service Executive, and delivers high quality advice and support to health professionals conducting health related research in the county of Dorset. This takes the form of a consultancy service providing methodological and statistical advice, supporting the development of research grant applications, and providing training in research methods. In addition the Dorset RDSU is an active collaborator, and also continues to develop its own programme of research. The staff of the RDSU includes a Reader in Medical Statistics, a Consultant Psychologist, a Consultant Rheumatologist, Research Officers, Research Assistants and administrative support.
Due to the Dorset RDSUs involvement in a number of recent successful grant applications we are now seeking a Research Officer to work on a variety of projects in the fields of psychology and medicine. Duties will include assisting in the design of research studies, the development of data collection tools and questionnaires, conducting statistical and psychometric analyses, participating in the administration of questionnaires, the management of project databases, and assisting in writing reports and scientific papers. Initially work will focus on the development of a health and hormones assessment for women.
Applicants should be qualified to degree level (a higher degree would be an advantage), with experience of research in a health services setting. Preference will be given to candidates with either a degree or higher in statistics with experience of psychology research, or a degree in psychology with a good level of statistical competence and a willingness to apply their skills to other areas of health. The ability to communicate effectively with a variety of professionals is essential.
For the right candidate opportunities exist to develop their research consultancy skills and experience, and to attend training events, courses and conferences.
This is a new post offered initially for 1 year. We would expect the post to develop for a number of years beyond this. For the right candidate opportunities may exist for an Honorary appointment at Bournemouth University and for registering for a further degree.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience on the salary band £14700 to £16532.
