1-2 SENIOR SCIENTIST/POSTDOC positions in
STATISTICAL GENETICS AND DATA MINING
We seek collaborators to our expanding Biostatistics
Research Group/Network in Stockholm. Applicants should
have a PhD degree in mathematics, (bio)statistics and/or
computer science and experience of biomedical research
with emphasis on genetics and/or genomics. In particular
we seek persons with interest and ability to co-supervise
PhD students with a statistical science background who
are working on projects involving multifactorial diseases,
molecular data as well as environmental exposures. The
Swedish population and disease registries together with
comprehensive clinical and molecular level data provide
ample and unique opportunities for population and family
based quantitative research.
These positions have been made available by the Wallenberg
Foundation to establish a strong basis for biobanking,
epidemiology and biostatistics within The Wallenberg
Consortium North for Functional Genomics. They will
initially be guaranteed for one year starting Jan 1, 2001,
with the expressed intention to be continued for up to
four years. They will be positioned in the Biostatistics
Research Group affiliated with the Dept of Medical
Epidemiology at Karolinska Institutet www.mep.ki.se and
the Dept of Mathematical Statistics at Stockholm University
www.matematik.su.se. The successful applicant will find
ample opportunity for collaborative research within the
Functional Genomics Program, comprising of universities
not only in Stockholm, but also in Uppsala, Linköping and
Umeå. To promote the field of probability modelling and
computational molecular biology a graduate program in
statistical genetics and data mining is under planning,
aimed at students with an undergraduate maths/stats/computer
science background. Input to this program will be expected.
Further information is provided by Professor Juni Palmgren,
head of the Biostatistics Research Group ([log in to unmask]
