<flushboth>'Chancellors' is located in the South Manchester residential suburb of
Fallowfield, with accommodation to three-star hotel standard. It is
housed in the 1850s Italian style villa which was home to Sir Joseph
Whitworth, the great Victorian engineer, and then C P Scott of
Manchester Guardian fame. It is set in its own extensive gardens, with
ample parking space within the grounds, and is easily accessible from
Manchester Airport, mainline stations and the motorway network. </flushboth>

<center>14TH ARTS </center>
<center>ADVANCES IN RELIABILITY TECHNOLOGY SYMPOSIUM</center>
<center>Institution of Mechanical Engineers and The Safety and Reliability
Society </center>
<center>Organised through the University of Manchester School of Engineering</center>
Objective
<flushboth>The symposium will discuss, explore and demonstrate </flushboth>
<flushboth> (a) the advances which researchers and practitioners have
made,</flushboth>
<flushboth> (b) current industrial needs, </flushboth>
<flushboth>in the development of reliability engineering as represented by the
following list of typical topics:</flushboth>
<paraindent><param>out</param> - Modelling and assessment of reliability, availability,
maintainability, safety </paraindent>
<paraindent><param>out</param> and risk of equipment and systems</paraindent>
<paraindent><param>out</param> - Management and design for reliability</paraindent>
<paraindent><param>out</param> - Availability and economic analysis</paraindent>
<paraindent><param>out</param> - Maintenance</paraindent>
<paraindent><param>out</param> - Mechanical and structural reliability</paraindent>
<paraindent><param>out</param> - Dependent failure analysis</paraindent>
<paraindent><param>out</param> - Human factor analysis</paraindent>
<paraindent><param>out</param> - Electronic systems reliability</paraindent>
<paraindent><param>out</param> - Software reliability</paraindent>
<paraindent><param>out</param> - Reliability data collection and analysis</paraindent>
<paraindent><param>out</param> - Associated practical examples and case studies</paraindent>
<center> Time will be specifically allocated for the identification of industrial
needs and papers reviewing these are especially welcome.</center>
Contributions
<flushboth>Those wishing to offer papers for inclusion in the symposium are
invited to submit, by 29th February 2000 at the latest, synopses (in
English) of approximately 250 words - based on papers of up to 2,500
words - for consideration by the organising committee. The results of pre-
selection by the committee will be made known to the authors by 1st
May 2000. On notification of provisional acceptance, draft papers (in
English), typed on A4 sheets, will be required by 30th June 2000. Final
acceptance will be notified by September 1st 2000 and final papers will
be required by September 30th 2000. All accepted papers will appear in
a bound edition of the proceedings which will be given to delegates on
the first day of the symposium.</flushboth>
Synopses should be sent (post, fax or e-mail) to -
