Colleagues
Please see the note below from the UCL team. Maybe we should all
take a closer look at our own recodings, with a view to discovering
more exotica!!
Happy Christmas

Subject: UCAS/HESA Harmonisation Project
Dear Sheila and Roger,
I have been working on the assumption that we are stuck with the
new
coding structure.
Having now checked through the codes assigned to UCL, I have
found that
30% are wrong. The range of programmes offered by us was
rendered
decidedly more exotic by the inclusion of codes for subjects such as
calligraphy and metaphysics.
Apparently, the translation exercise was largely carried out by
means of a
(flawed) computer algorithm.
UCAS and HESA have been advised. I wonder if there is a similar
level of
error across all institutions?
Merry Christmas.
Yours sincerely,
Nigel
