Home Access (u may know someone who is eligible.)

The government is giving away free web access and laptops grants
aimed at lower income families without internet access. If you have
children in school years three to nine (roughly age 7 to 14) you may
be eligible for over 500 worth of equipment.
Urgent update - 10 August! The scheme had closed, but 10,000 grants
have been left unclaimed. They're now on 'first come first served'
getting the form back basis, so get in there quick if you've yet to
return your form or apply for the grant.

Art Event

The BDA are running a Gallery evening on 2 November as one of their Dyslexia
Awareness events. It will be in London having been sponsored by ShellUK. The
event runs from 5.00 - 8.00pm and dyslexic artists from all over the country are
being encouraged to send in one piece of artwork which can be displayed during
the evening. Proceeds from the evening will be used, amongst other things, to
fund the out of school workshops which the BDA is assisting LDAs to set up,
under the project Children Will Shine. For further information, contact Arran
Smith on [log in to unmask]
Case Study Wanted

A freelance journalist is looking for some case studies for a piece she is
writing on the transition between primary and secondary school for dyslexic
children.

She is looking for a family where a child was not diagnosed with their dyslexia
when they joined secondary school, to discuss how the change exacerbated their
dyslexia.

She would also like to speak to a family whose child was diagnosed when they
went to secondary school, to discuss the positive steps they could take to make
the changes easier for their child.

Geography/Gender/Age is not an issue (although must still be at secondary
school). The journalist would like to speak to potential case studies within the
next two weeks.

Please email Rachel Lawson at the BDA on [log in to unmask] if you know
of any potential case studies who may be willing to be a part of this article.

BBC Three Dyslexia Documentary

BBC Three are producing a documentary on dyslexia and would like to speak to
someone under 30 (any gender/location) who is severely dyslexic who would be
willing to be a case study on their documentary. They would need be filmed in
their day-to-day life and discuss how their dyslexia affects them daily. If you
know of someone who would be interested in taking part please email Rachel
Lawson at the BDA on [log in to unmask]
Please note: the producers of the documentary would like to speak to potential
case studies asap with a view to filming starting in the next few weeks.
