>> I don't know of any PhD program for Greek and Latin that really addresses the challenges that we face as we reinvent our field to flourish in the digital world of which we are all already a part. (I am hoping to be buried with counter-examples!)
The Classics department where I work recently hired a tenure-track position for a general classicist, without requirement for a specific area of research interest. The (depressingly numerous) applications probably included pretty nearly the whole applicant pool, and so provided a kind of survey of what's going on in PhD programs across the country.
I saw no evidence that any graduate program is addressing the challenges Greg Crane raises.
