This seminar will provide an opportunity to discuss the future for social prescribing in England - with sessions focusing on commissioning, demonstrating quality, learning from best practice and the next steps for policy.
We are delighted to include keynote addresses from Dr Michael Dixon, National Clinical Lead, Social Prescribing, NHS England; Co-Chair, Social Prescribing Network and Chairman, College of Medicine; Professor Gillian Leng, Deputy Chief Executive and Director of Health and Social Care, NICE and Dr Marie Polley, Senior Lecturer, School of Life Sciences, University of Westminster and Co-Chair, Social Prescribing Network.
The conference takes place with an increasing policy focus on social prescribing - with plans to develop it further as part of a holistic approach to prevention<https://www.gov.uk/government/speeches/matt-hancock-my-priorities-for-the-health-and-social-care-system> announced by the Secretary of State within his priorities for the health and social care system, and with it being one of the 10 high-impact actions within the General Practice Forward View<https://www.england.nhs.uk/gp/gpfv/>.
We expect discussion around the engagement of leaders within the health and social care system with plans for social prescribing, as well as future governance arrangements.
Delegates will also consider latest evidence of the expected impacts from social prescribing schemes, quality assurance, workforce training requirements, and what more can be done to ensure equity of access.
Further sessions assess the sustainability of social prescribing schemes in the face of pressures on local public health budgets, and on GPs and their colleauges within primary care in terms of time and other competing demands - as well as the impact of recently announced government funding for a range of social prescribing schemes across England<https://www.gov.uk/government/news/social-prescribing-schemes-across-england-to-receive-45-million> and what more can be done locally to identify and organise the use of assets that already exist.
Overall, areas for discussion include:
* Assessing where we are now - policy and delivery priorities for social prescribing in England;
* Addressing challenges for commissioning social prescribing - with discussion on funding, governance, integration and engaging with Sustainability and Transformation Partnerships;
* Defining and demonstrating quality - including nature of standards for different sectors, evidence and workforce training;
* Social prescribing in practice - implications for general practice, digital signposting to local assets, patient experience and application to mental health wellbeing; and
* Learning from the evaluation of case studies from across England and Scotland on developing personalised approaches to care.

This seminar will present an opportunity to engage with key policymakers and other interested parties, and is CPD certified (more details<http://www.westminsterforumprojects.co.uk/cpd>). Places have been reserved by parliamentary pass-holders from the London Assembly and officials from DHSC; DWP; Public Health England and HM Treasury. Overall, we expect speakers and attendees to be a senior and informed group numbering around 120, including Members of both Houses of Parliament, senior government officials involved in this area of public policy, healthcare professionals, representatives of the healthcare and pharmaceutical industries, academics, charities and user groups, together with reporters from the national and trade media.
Output and About Us
A key output of the seminar will be a transcript of the proceedings, sent out around 12 working days after the event to all attendees and a wider group of Ministers and officials at DHSC and other government departments; agencies affected by the issues; and Parliamentarians with a special interest in these areas. It will also be made available more widely. This document will include transcripts of all speeches and questions and answers sessions from the day, along with access to PowerPoint presentations, speakers’ biographies, an attendee list, an agenda, sponsor information, as well as any subsequent press coverage of the day and any articles or comment pieces submitted by delegates. It is made available subject to strict restrictions on public use, similar to those for Select Committee Uncorrected Evidence, and is intended to provide timely information for interested parties who are unable to attend on the day.
All delegates will receive complimentary PDF copies and are invited to contribute to the content.
