Vacancy No. 11/11-EMRP
The Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) is the National Metrology Institute of the Federal Republic of Germany with scientific and technical service tasks. It furthers progress and reliability in metrology for society, economy and science.
Within the scope of a European research project of the European Metrology Programme EMRP involving research institutes from 7 countries, Department 8.4 "Mathematical Modelling and Data Analysis" is looking for a
specialised in applied mathematics, statistics, theoretical physics or a comparable theoretical engineering science.
The post is located in Berlin and limited to 3 years. The remuneration will be paid up to remuneration group 14 TVöD Bund (85 %) according to your personal preconditions. It is possible to obtain a doctoral degree.
Measuring mechanical quantities characterised by fast temporal variations, such as force, acceleration, pressure or torque, is a challenging task with multiple applications in industry. The sponsored EMRP project aims to develop procedures for the high-precision calibration of corresponding measuring systems. This requires to model the transmission behaviour of corresponding sensors using methods of digital signal processing. In addition, Department 8.4 is involved in the analysis of calibration measurements carried out by project partners. This work is focused, among others, on the statistical characterisation of the accuracy achieved.
• Mathematical modelling of dynamic measurements
• Statistical data analysis
• Application of methods from digital signal processing
• Completed university studies in a relevant subject
• Aptitude for the mathematical/statistical analysis of experiments and measurement processes
• Experience with at least one of the potential key activities
• Passion for independent scientific work, as well as for team and project work
• Readiness to cooperate with European institutes and industrial partners
• Very good command of English and ability to present results convincingly in spoken and written language.
