Principal Researcher in Statistical Genomics and Bioinformatics/Reader in Bioinformatics (BioSS 03-18)
Biomathematics & Statistics Scotland (BioSS) and the University of Edinburgh School of Mathematics (SoM) have a vacancy for a senior scientist with a strong quantitative background to undertake methodological research in statistical genomics and bioinformatics in collaboration with biological scientists. The aim is to develop and apply computationally intensive modelling and analysis methods to exploit the potential of existing and emerging types of data in genomics and meta-genomics, proteomics and metabolomics.
This is a joint post between BioSS (65%) and the School of Mathematics (35%). We offer a stimulating working environment (located in adjacent accommodation within the James Clerk Maxwell Building at the King’s Buildings campus with a shared common room and excellent facilities) and extensive opportunities to develop collaborations with scientists in both the research institute and university sectors.
This full-time post will be offered as two separate contracts, with a combined salary from £49,271.
Our ideal candidate for the post will have:
- a PhD in a quantitative discipline with substantial quantitative and computational components.
- a strong track record of collaborative working at the interface between the quantitative and biological sciences, corroborated by co-authored papers in scientific journals;
- evidence of leadership in management and motivation of staff;
- a promising track record of successful funding applications; and
- the ability to communicate positively, effectively and confidently beyond their own discipline.
All individuals wishing to work within the UK must be entitled to do so before they can be employed.
