Senior, Intermediate and Junior positions available

The Cardiovascular Epidemiology Unit (CEU) within the Department of Public Health & Primary Care (one of Europe’s leading academic departments of population health sciences) is an internationally recognised interdisciplinary group currently comprising >50 staff and students. The CEU seeks to recruit epidemiologists, applied statisticians, genetic statisticians, and data analysts as part of a major expansion of its research activities.

For the current advertisement, the CEU seeks to appoint talented medical/applied statisticians who are interested in joining world-leading large-scale studies of cardiovascular disease. These positions can be filled by appropriate candidates at senior, intermediate, or junior levels, depending on relevant qualifications and experience.

The main responsibility of this role(s) will be to design and implement analyses of genetic, biochemical and lifestyle data in relation to cardiovascular disease in a portfolio of studies involving large epidemiological databases. Such analyses will provide internationally unique and unusually detailed insights into the relevance of novel risk factors to cardiovascular disease, the world’s leading source of death and major disability. The role will involve contributing importantly to a series of high-impact publications.

The post-holder will have: (1) relevant statistical qualifications (eg, a Masters or PhD in Medical/Applied statistics), (2) a sound understanding of statistical concepts, particularly in relation to chronic disease epidemiology (3) strong quantitative skills (4) experience of analysing large data sets independently using STATA/R (5) high level report writing and presentational skills. The post-holder should also be able to work independently, accurately judge priorities, and have excellent organisational and communication skills.

Formal applications consisting of a covering letter, CV and a completed CHRIS/6 form (available from http://www.admin.cam.ac.uk/offices/hr/forms/chris6/) should be sent to Lynette Watson, preferably by email ([log in to unmask]) or by post to Department of Public Health and Primary Care, Strangeways Research Laboratory, Worts Causeway, Cambridge CB1 8RN.

Informal enquiries can be made to Dr Emanuele Di Angelantonio by email ([log in to unmask]) or telephone + 44 (0) 1223 741302.
