caused by unsafe drinking water. Thames Water have set up a website
associated with WaterAid and will donate 100,000 pounds (which will provide
safe drinking water for life to 6,000 people in Africa and Asia) if they
have 250,000 visitors to the site in the next 12 weeks. It only takes a few
seconds to visit the site and click on the 'Click Here" message: Please

This second workshop in London is popular with beginners and also those
who have already used Dreamweaver or another package.

Netskills Workshop:
Getting to Grips with Dreamweaver 3

09:30 - 16:30 Thursday 20th September 2001 Birkbeck College, London

Macromedia Dreamweaver 3 is a popular choice of
package incorporating tools for web page creation
and web site control and management. It brings
sophisticated techniques within the grasp of
non-technical people and produces professional
results with a minimum of effort.

This is a practical workshop for those who are
users of the World Wide Web and would like to
use a web publishing tool to create their own web
pages and manage their web site. Whether they
have already started authoring on the web or not
they will be able to produce a high quality site
without the need for programming skills.

Workshop Content:
The workshop will comprise presentations, demonstrations and
hands-on sessions with opportunities for questions and discussion.
Participants will each receive a workbook which contains workshop
exercises, presentation slides and other relevant materials.

Topics covered will include:
 * Getting started with Dreamweaver 3
 * Creating and editing web pages including: formatting text, adding
 * tables and images and making hyperlinks
 * Manipulation of page properties such as title, background colour and
   metadata
 * Editing the HTML directly from within Dreamweaver 3
 * Formatting techniques including style sheets, templates and library
file inclusions, in order to give a consistent appearance to pages
 * Building navigation tools such as navigation bars and jump menus
 * Creation of frames and assigning links to open pages in particular
   frames
 * Web site management with Dreamweaver 3, including building a site
   map and link checking
 * Designing for accessibility: testing pages in target browsers
   including text browsers
 * Importing Word HTML and cleaning up the HTML

By the end of the workshop participants will have:
 * Written a number of web pages
 * Included images and hyperlinks in their web pages
 * Created a style sheet and linked it to a web page
 * Created templates and used library items for information common to a
   number of pages
 * Divided your page into frames and loaded pages into the main frame
 * from links in a navigation bar in the bordering frame
 * Created a web site and investigated the site management features
   including link checking and publishing
 * Explored design and accessibility issues
 * Imported a Word HTML document and removed some of the less
   accessible elements of the HTML

Workshop Requirements:
Participants need no special technical skills. Basic
computer skills such as using a mouse and keyboard
are essential. In addition, experience in using
Microsoft Windows to open and save files and close
applications (e.g. a word processor) would be helpful.
Participants are expected to have seen the World
Wide Web and used a Web browser such as Netscape
or Internet Explorer. A basic knowledge of HTML would
be useful.

The cost of the workshop is £ 120 for participants from higher and
further education. Other participants should contact Netskills for the
relevant fees.
Note: Costs include lunch, morning coffee and afternoon tea.
