Artistiek laboratorium op / langs / over trage wegen

Dear slow path lovers & arts walkers >>> for English scroll down,
Dag tragewegenliefhebbers & cultuurwandelaars,
In 'Setting Out'
laboratorium tijdens 'Moving on' (Zutendaal, 15/9) in dialoog worden gezet
Eetbare planten, soundstorming, gps-tekenen, stadsklimmen, muzikale
wandelperformances?
www.twitter.com/#!/SidewaysArtFest!
wegen!

Andy & Sinta,
namens het Sideways-team

Artistic laboratory on / along / about slow paths

Dear slow path lovers & arts walkers,
With pleasure, we announce you the Sideways festival: a Walking Arts Festival
in the open and on the go! Slow paths form the scenery for a dialogue between
nature and culture. Exploring field tracks and shortcuts, artists and public
will cross Belgium on foot, from West to East.
Taking a slow path, storytelling and sustainability, arts & ecology.. have a
stroll through www.sideways2012.be and discover the philosophy and the
concept of Sideways, or just click on the themes in pink!
The backbone of Sideways is a 4-weeks walking expedition. For artists the
journey is also a mobile laboratory and residency: the artistic projects
develop at a footpace, in interaction with each other and with the
environment. We will walk from Mondays till Thursdays. These journeys vary
between 7 to 35 kilometers and are guided by local explorers. Everyone is
welcome: join in and walk along!
During the festival weekends the caravan stops on 5 festival locations: in
Menen (19/8), Herzele (25-26/8), Brussels (1-2/9), Turnhout (8-9/9) and
Zutendaal (15-16/9). Different lines of movements and stories are entwined
into knots of activity and an artistic program unfolds for the public. Some
50 artists interpret the landscape within their performances, artistic
research, photography, installations, paintings, drawings and walkshops!
We start and begin the festival with a symposium: framing moments of
reflection and exchange. In 'Setting Out' (Menen, 19/8) sparks an
investigation of slow ways and sets out the guidelines and research themes of
the Sideways expedition. During the closing conference 'Moving on'
(Zutendaal, 15/9) sets the experiences of the mobile laboratory in dialogue
with other stories and practices from Belgium and abroad.
Edible plants, herbal experiments, sound landscapes, gps-drawing, urban
climbing, musical walking performances? Join us and sign up for our
explorative walkshops!
For the ones at home or away and for the international audience, Sideways is
daily documenting the findings of the expedition online, with the help of
DonkeyXote, our multimedia donkey and the mobile office of the festival! This
traditional pack animal is equipped with gps-tracker, laptop, time lapse
camera, sound recording system and solar panels! As such, the expedition and
the traversed landscape will be mapped, day in day out, step by step.
Track us down, catch up with us, inspire the expedition with initiatives
around the globe, which circle in the spirit of Sideways or just send cheers
to our walking artists via www.facebook.com/sideways2012 and
www.twitter.com/#!/SidewaysArtFest!
We are very much looking forward to this adventure and would be happy to meet
you all along slow paths!

Andy & Sinta,
for the Sideways team
