Hi Amanda,
No incoming connections are required to use any components of Second
Life.
The way I handle it here is:
Allow outbound traffic for the core SL protocols to any destination.
(Each sim has a different IP address and this also mostly allows access
to opensim grids which use SL protocols):
http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Configuring_your_corporate_firewall_to_a
llow_access_to_Second_Life
The ports for standard web protocols, 53,80,443 are already allowed, web
traffic goes via a proxy server, so set the client to use a web proxy.
In the future there will be more http traffic as there is a plan for SL
to use http for texture downloads, currently map tile downloads use this
method if you use a viewer with http texture support.
Allow outbound connections for voice to destinations on the range of
ports specified in the document at:
http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Can_I_use_voice_from_behind_a_firewall%3
F
Also bear in mind that video uses Quicktime so that will need an
appropriate configuration on the client.
Good luck,
Pieter
