Job description:
Professor in Transport and Health - 1 year fixed term contract - 2 days a week
It is an exciting time to join Edinburgh Napier University as Professor in Transport & Health on a part-time basis. In this newly created position, you will join our Transport Research Institute (TRI) within the School of Engineering and the Built Environment (SEBE) whilst working collaboratively with our School of Health and Social Care.
SEBE has a long history of innovative applied research, working with both industry specialists and government on cutting edge projects that are internationally renowned and world leading. From automation and robotics, energy and renewables, to travel behaviour, road safety and traffic engineering, our work has gained national and international recognition and influences our teaching programmes. We are particularly proud to host the Institute for Sustainable Construction and the Transport Research Institute, two internationally leading institutes with a focus on research.
Here at Edinburgh Napier we actively promote a strong inclusive environment and are proud of the progress of our inclusivity strategy, following our recent SEBE Athena Swan accreditation.
The Role:
As Professor in Transport & Health, you will lead strategic growth in the area of transport and health, a topic that fits closely with the University's strategic wellbeing research theme. You will raise TRI's and the University's profile in this area, one that is growing but which lacks research capacity and experience in the UK.
You will take the institute into new research areas and funding streams by publishing in academic journals and the technical press and developing and taking the lead on new project bids. You will ensure that this niche area builds on TRI's existing strengths in road safety and sustainable transport.
This is an exciting, challenging opportunity if you are looking to develop your own research in a supportive, stimulating and thriving transport research environment. You will also be joining a University where health and wellbeing is high on the corporate agenda.
Who We Are Looking For:
Essential requirements:
PhD in relevant subject area
Excellent track record of raising research funds, publishing in academic journals and teaching in an academic environment
Excellent contacts in the broadly defined transport and health "industry" outside academia
Experience of working with these contacts, preferably in non-academic organisations
Experience of performing in advisory roles in industry and government and of knowledge transfer from academic to non-academic organisations
Desirable Requirements:
MSc or PGDip in transport planning related discipline

Benefits We Offer:
