CLINICAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE - The Wellcome Trust Centre for
Neuroimaging at UCL (incorporating the Leopold Muller Functional
Imaging Laboratory (FIL) and the Wellcome Department of Imaging
Neuroscience) is an interdisciplinary centre for neuroimaging
excellence. Using neuroimaging techniques, our goal is to understand
how thought and perception arise from brain activity, and how such
processes break down in neurological and psychiatric disease. Our
research groups study all aspects of higher cognitive function
including vision, memory, language and reasoning, emotion, decision
making and motor control. An opportunity has arisen for a Clinical
Research Associate with an interest in neuroimaging research to work
on biomarkers and novel methods of computerized image-based diagnosis
of pre-clinical and early stages of neurodegenerative disorders as
well as genetic correlates of anatomical changes in relation to normal
cognitive variability and multigenic disease. The post is supervised
by Professor Richard Frackowiak and supported by Dr John Ashburner for
methodological innovation. There is also an opportunity to attend a
general or specialist neurological clinic per week. Applicants should
hold GMC registration and MRCP (or equivalent), have previous
experience in Neurology as an SHO or equivalent, and be able to
demonstrate a record of academic excellence. Some neuroimaging
experience would be an advantage but is not essential. The program is
funded by the Wellcome Trust, and the post will be available from
August 2008 for 1 year in the first instance, renewable. Starting
salary, commensurate with experience and qualifications, will be on
the UCL Clinical Grade 7 scale in the range £30,231 - £38,336 per
annum plus £2,649 per annum London Weighting, superannuable. Further
details (including information on how to apply) should first be
obtained from Mr. C Dennis, (Personnel), Institute of Neurology, The
National Hospital for Neurology & Neurosurgery, Queen Square, London
