Re this very illuminating discussion of Talus's flail, I would like to add
two details: first, the insistence that it is an iron flail, and that when
used against the Amazons is called a 'strange weapon, neuer wont in warre',
for which I add the note: 2 That the Amazons were not accustomed to a
military weapon that ‘amongst them thondred' (v 19.2) suggests that Talus
uses musketry or cannons; see Daly 1960:49 and i 12.8-9n. (I refer to John
Daly's article in N&Q 205:49.)
