Dear colleagues,
Kelley Conway and I have been hard at work this summer on planning for
the 2013 Screenwriting Research Network conference in Madison,
Wisconsin. Deciding on dates has proven to be far more difficult than we
ever imagined would be the case. We initially expected to host it during
the first or second week in September, but, unfortunately, that's simply
not possible.
Home college football games (which draw 80,000 fans) as well as an
Ironman Competition in September have forced us to stage the conference
earlier than usual. Because most universities in the USA begin classes
on August 26, we have decided to hold next year's conference in Madison
on August 20-22 (Tuesday through Thursday). This allows us to have
reasonably priced hotel rooms available, good audio visual support by
our own dedicated technical staff, and to be able to book a nice
restaurant for the conference dinner at an affordable rate.
We are aware that these dates are not necessarily ideal for all of our
members. We realize that August is a holiday month for Europeans, that
the end of August is a bank holiday for some, and so forth. We even
considered trying to move the conference to July, but that would not
give us enough time to organize the event, and we ran into a host of
other problems.
My purpose in writing to you now is to give everyone advance notice of
the earlier conference dates, so that you can begin to make travel
plans. Please mark August 20-22, 2013 on your calendars. We sincerely
hope that most people will be able to attend. Kelley and I look forward
hosting a great conference next year.
All the best,
JJ
