Research Associate in Exoplanetary and Stellar Astrophysics
The Astrophysics group at University College London is accepting
applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate, to work on
observational projects combining exoplanetary and stellar astrophysics.
The position is funded by the Science and Technology Facilities Council
and will primarily focus on the Galactic origin and chemistry of
planetary bodies that pollute the surfaces of white dwarf stars, and
their circumstellar debris disks.
Applicants with backgrounds in Planetary or Earth Sciences are
encouraged to apply, as well as those with experience working with large
survey data. This position is funded for two years in the first
instance, with a possible extension for a third year.
The successful applicant will have a PhD in Physics or Astrophysics or
related field, and the applicant is expected to have excellent written
and verbal communication skills. The ideal candidate should be familiar
with the reduction of photometric and spectroscopic data at multiple
wavelengths. Previous experience with large survey data, stellar
abundances, or circumstellar disks are all highly desirable.
Appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if
this is not the case, initial appointment will be at research assistant
Grade 6B (salary GBP 30,316 - GBP 31,967 per annum, inclusive of London
Allowance) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final
submission of the PhD thesis.
