Hello all,

To celebrate the tenth annual ESRC Festival of Social Science we ran the Portraits of Britain photographic competition, in which entrants were asked to submit images to capture the meaning of social sciences and society today in a single picture. Further information about the competition can be found at www.esrc.ac.uk/portraits.

The vote for ‘public favourite’ image and the top prize of £500 in photographic equipment vouchers is open until midnight on Tuesday 18 September 2012 and we'd like your votes! You can view all of the entries in our online Flickr galleries at http://www.flickr.com/photos/esrcphotos/sets/. Many images have been submitted with a caption to help place the photo in context.

How to vote:

Flickr: If you have a Flickr account, please make up to three images a 'favourite' to cast your vote.

Email: In the event that you do not have a Flickr account, please email the reference of up to three images to [log in to unmask] The image reference is contained within the image title, for example, YP_499_Socialising teens.

Please note: any information you provide is covered by the Data Protection Act and your email address and user identification will be used solely for the purpose of casting your vote and will not be passed to any third parties.

You may only vote once for each image. This will be monitored across the different voting methods to ensure that the voting is fair. While it is possible to ‘like’ more than three images in Flikr, we would appreciate you choosing only your three overall favourite images.

The winner of the ‘public favourite’ image will be determined by the total number of 'favourites' and emails for each image. The image with the highest number of votes will win £500 in photographic equipment vouchers. Votes will be counted and verified after the closing date of 18 September.

In the event of a tie our panel of expert judges will have the casting vote. The winners of all categories will be informed by 1 October, and announced following our prize giving event in London on 7 November.

Please feel free to circulate this email to your friends, family and colleagues and encourage them to vote for their favourite images too!

If you have any queries please contact the Festival team at [log in to unmask]

Regards,
Amy
