Many Australians aren't. No-one I've spoken to in the last five months has
expressed any real support for this Government's stand on asylum seekers,
although some may disagree amongst themselves about aspects of 'border
protection'. Saying that, the Labor Government is coming in with too little
too late, as much as one may admire individual stands such as Carmen
Lawrence's. Should have been done a long time ago. At least the churches
have been consistent. Goes to show how little clout they really have. Many
Australians aren't but just not enough.
Loved the headline over a story in The Australian today: "Fairytale of
sneaks and boatload of tossers" over a pic of Howard, Costello and Downer
looking rather smug in Parlt, like, guess what, real tossers. The journalist
went on to talk about Iron John, Sneaky Pete and Fabulous Phil. Our own
reservoir dogs indeed. Very, very sad. But how disgusted do we all have to
get?
best,
Jill
