Thanks, Doug, and I do agree. In a recent conversation
with poet Mark Doty, he said that he has been
experimenting with this strategy in his own revisions,
and suggesting it to his students. He said, "You might
find some real surprises in your work, and break out of
the usual narrative patterns." This is the second time
out of three tries that the results were indeed
surprising.
