Dear List Owners
Apologies for the late notice, but we need to take mailing list services offline this evening (Friday 18 May, 19:00-20:20 UK time) to carry out essential maintenance work.
The changes we plan to carry out will ensure that mailing lists operate more efficiently with bad/bouncing subscriber email addresses.
We have been made aware that for the majority of mailing lists, when a message from a mailing list is bounced by a subscriber's email service, the email address will remain on the mailing list until the list owner takes action. We want to make list management activities as efficient for you as we can, and we know that the service is capable of managing bounces quickly and efficiently.
The change we will apply will automatically remove email addresses from a mailing list if a message is undelivered to a subscriber for 4 days or the system receives 100 bounces. List owners will receive an email from the system confirming which email addresses have been automatically deleted as a result of delivery errors, and list owners can use List Management > List Activity > List Activity Reports to review recent bounces and auto-deletions on lists, should any deletion errors occur (contact [log in to unmask] if you need help using this feature).
Please note that If your mailing list already has an auto-delete setting on it, then no changes will be made to it.
During downtime, mailing list services will be offline, therefore emails posted to mailing lists will be queued for delivery.
The service status at http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk will be updated and updates will be posted to www.facebook.com/JiscMail and www.twitter.com/jiscmailhelp
