The initial appointment is for one year, to be renewed for up to two additional years.
The project involves the study of the control of molecular rotation and orientation in space by ultrafast femtosecond laser pulses. It is a part of an ongoing theoretical-experimental collaboration of several groups in Israel, China, Canada and France (see attached a list of recent publications). Presently, we use laser pulses of different color, polarization and propagation direction for molecular spatiotemporal control, with the eventual goal of fixing the orientation of large molecules in space. Furthermore, we investigate the kinetics and dynamics of molecules in collisional environments via the recently discovered phenomenon of molecular alignment echo.
Successful candidates must have a PhD in Physics, Chemistry, or a closely related discipline. A background in the physics of laser interaction with atoms and molecules is needed. This position calls for excellent analytical and computational skills. The working language at the Weizmann Institute of Science is English. We are looking for highly motivated candidates who enjoy teamwork and multidisciplinary research.
