****************************************************
Bow Shock, Magnetosheath, and Magnetopause Processes
Session SM003, AGU Fall Meeting
3rd-7th December 2012, San Francisco
****************************************************

Dear colleagues,

We encourage you to submit abstracts to session SM003, "Bow Shock,
Magnetosheath, and Magnetopause Processes", at this year's AGU Fall
Meeting. The abstract submission website is now open, and the deadline
for submissions is at 2359 EDT on Wednesday 8th August.

A description of the session is provided below. Further information,
including details of how to submit an abstract, can be found at
http://fallmeeting.agu.org/2012/

Best wishes,

Dr. Brian Walsh, NASA Goddard Space Flight Center ([log in to unmask])

Dr. Robert Fear, University of Leicester, UK ([log in to unmask])

Session description:

This session focuses on observations and modelling of the coupling of
plasma from the bow shock to the magnetopause at the Earth and other
planets. In recent years a significant number of spacecraft and
ground-based instruments have sampled these regions both in situ
(THEMIS, Cluster, Double Star, Geotail, Cassini, MESSENGER) and remotely
(IBEX, SuperDARN). These measurements coupled with modelling efforts
have advanced our knowledge of a number of processes within these
regions. Understanding coupling between these regions includes an
understanding of bow shock physics, the plasma flow and magnetic
environment in the magnetosheath, as well as plasma entry through
reconnection, wave instabilities, and other magnetopause dynamics.
