Hello,
As someone who also reads more than they post on this list I feel moved to say I would be strongly against the banning of notifications relating to new publications and the like. For me they are both useful and interesting, and really don't amount to a large quantity of emails.
I would also point out that funds for the calendar are going to worthwhile causes and, in my opinion, the wider the advertising for such things the better - especially given the financial difficulties faced by many charitable organisations at present.
As a compromise emails about such things could include in the subject heading 'notification' or 'advert' or some agreed term, then those list members who wish to avoid them can set their own accounts to filter them straight to junk mail - as it appears the majority would prefer to still have access to this information?

Dear List
My understanding of the Mining History Network is to discuss and answer mining related enquires. So may I enquire why we have to put up with all the advertising on this site?
Is it possible for the members of the lists concerned to create their own email list to advertise books, calendars, ebay, etc instead of using this discussion network? Personally I think advertising on this network should be banned, and would like to see the site owners take steps to address this problem.
Regards Chris Kelland
