The RUSI Library of Military History wishes to invite you to an evening commemorating the seven members of RUSI that were awarded the Victoria Cross in the First World War. This event will take place on Thursday 27 July from 5.30 pm and the full details, including booking instructions, are on the website:
The evening consists of a panel discussion, including Dr Nick Lloyd and Dr Robert Foley of King’s College London, on the Battle of Passchendaele and more generally the British operations on the Western Front throughout the war, appropriate given a number of the seven Victoria Crosses were awarded because of action on the Western Front. A collection of replica medals, kindly lent by Hancocks, will also be on display at the event and images of the seven men, reproduced by kind permission of This England magazine, will be displayed alongside material for the RUSI archives.
This is part of a series of events inspired by collections-based research at the Library which has also included the creation of a RUSI Roll of Honour for members that died on active service throughout the First World War.
