DARPA will host a Proposers Day in support of the Atomic Magnetometer for Biological Imaging In Earth’s
Native Terrain (AMBIIENT) program from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on April 3, 2017, at the DARPA Conference
Center (DCC 01-200) in Arlington, VA. Advanced registration is required. The AMBIIENT BAA,
HR001117S0025, is expected to be released prior to the Proposers Day
The AMBIIENT program intends to develop a new generation of magnetic sensors that directly measure
the gradient of magnetic field over short baselines, rather than the conventional approach of
subtracting the signals from two separate total field magnetometers. AMBIIENT sensors will produce a
signal directly proportional to the gradient of the magnetic field, thereby eliminating the need for
extraordinarily high electronic dynamic range and common-mode rejection. The success of AMBIIENT
requires the invention and development of novel physics techniques and architectures for sensors that
directly measure magnetic field gradient, rather than total field.
I would dance and be merry,
Life would be a ding-a-derry,
If I only had a brain.
