medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Herewith a link to an earlier 'Saints of the day' for 30. May (including St. Gavinus of Porto Torres; Sts. Basil the Elder and Emmelia; St. Dympna; St. Hubert of Liège; St. Walstan; St. Ferdinand III of Castile and León; St. Joan of Arc):

Further to Gavinus of Porto Torres:
In that earlier post's notice of this saint, add this illustrated, Italian-language account, fuller than those previously signaled, of the basilica di San Gavino in Porto Torres (SS):

In the same notice, the link to an English-language account of the basilica di San Gavino in Porto Torres (SS) no longer functions. Use this instead:

In the same same notice, the link to a view of part of the early Christian necropolis adjacent to the basilica di San Gavino in Porto Torres also no longer functions. Use this instead:

Further to Dympna:
In that earlier post's notice of this saint, the link to Erik Drigsdahl's contribution of 31. May 2009 no longer functions. Use this instead:

The St. Dimpnakerk in Geel preserves a polychromed later medieval wooden shrine that once housed sarcophagi containing the putative relics of St. Dympna and of her companion in martyrdom St. Gerebernus. Herewith two illustrated, Dutch-language pages on this object (NB: the views at the bottom of the second of these are greatly expandable):

This English-language page from the Flemish art dealer Luc De Backker discusses Goswin Van der Weyden's altarpiece of 1505 depicting scenes of St. Dympna and offers a view of one of its panels:

A view of another of the panels, this time depicting Dympna's baptism:

Grave slab of Leonardo da Vinci (d. 1519, well within the chronological limits of this list):

Further to Walstan:
In that earlier post's notice of this saint, please disregard the statement about the non-functioning link to [a view or views of] the wall painting of Walstan in the church of St Andrew at Cavenham (Suffolk). Instead of a single link the page now offers large, expandable thumbnails linked to views on Flickr of the painting as a whole (center) and of details of it.
Best,
John Dillon
