many thanks!
your source looks a bit more reliable than my rusty memory.
i assume, in shameless self defence, that "Barbizon" (as in the school of
painting) comes from "Barbou"?

which also tells us that Louis' second wife was burried with him:
in default of any real knowledge about the matter, i'd speculate that Suger's
Hi-Toned and grandiose ideas about [re-]establishing a single Royal Necropolis
just didn't outweigh the urgency and much more critical consideration of being
sure that you got yourself planted in a spot which would be tended devoutly by
pious folks who would do the Duty.
which, the early --or at least second generation-- Cistercians seem to have
specialized in.
chances are that the abbey was *founded* for the --ultimate-- purpose of
serving as his family Necropolis, a common enough practice.
(though he's the only one buried there, according to the authoritative

i can't seem to turn up anything else of significance on Barbeau on the web
(even using the right spelling).
be interesting to know something about the abbots of the place from the
beginning through Louis' enternment.
anybody got a Gallia Christiana handy?
