Brilliant answers, particularly nod-worthy from Janet and Cristiano.
There was a depressing time when in order to be "accessible" in checkbox
terms sites seemed to have to be pretty dull and visually a bit of a
nothing - and thus in being "checkbox accessible" to those with sight or
other impairments ended up being unappealing to others. See for example
many (older) council websites...
But - now that tech, and I guess thinking - has moved on, I think it's
become easier to think a bit more holistically about this. The checkbox
mentality is still there - it's pretty normal to see "Must be AA
accessible" in a web brief - but I'm getting the impression like Rick
says that this is part of the landscape of "normal" development, which
is surely a good thing.
It's similar to responsive development I guess - no longer an edge case
but a "business as usual" thing.
