I was going to say it might be worth a look at Drupal. There are several
generic plug-ins that could be used to build an explorable on-line
collection, but I haven't investigated doing this in detail.
I was concerned about some of the other suggestions. Many seem to have good
ways to input data, but very limited facilities for exporting it out again
should you decide (or even be forced to) change solution at a later date.
